Heroes Unlimited for Beginners
Here’s some basic information for people who’d like to know more about the system.
A Complete List of Classes Available
- Alien –
A character from another planet. In Countdown this is a person who has lived their life,
believing to be human, only to discover that they have a secret heritage. These characters
have super powers, a special alien weapon passed down from their planet, and have recently
developed some non-human aspects that may be visible.
- Bionic –
A character who has a human body that has been upgraded with robotic parts.
- Experiment –
A character who was the subject of an experiment that resulted in super powers, as well as
some unforeseen side effects.
- Super soldier sub category: A character that is Captain America.
- Hardware Category:
4 sub categories of “genius.” Rather than having a super power they have a wide array of
skills in their field.
- Electrical Genius –
A character skilled in electronics and computers. Has a budget for computers, gimmick
weapons, and a vast range of modern technology.
- Mechanical Genius -
A character skilled in machines. Has a budget for a super vehicle.
- Analytical Genius –
A character skilled in figuring things out. Has a budget for a variety of inventions,
including robotic armor.
- Weapons Expert -
A character skilled in weapon construction and repair. Has a budget for an arsenal.
- Magic Category:
3 sub categories of characters that have access to casting magic spells and who’s powers
are granted by magic.
- Magic Object or Weapon –
A character that has found an object or weapon that, when held, bestows them with
magic powers and super powers.
- Wizard –
A character that has studied the arcane arts and learned to cast magic spells.
- Mystically Bestowed –
A character that was granted super powers by a magical being.
- Mutants –
Something happened to the mutant character that has unleashed super powers within them.
- Physical Training -
A character that has trained their body incredibly hard. Also, a prime example of how some
of these classes are not balanced. If anyone picks this I will be shocked.
Update: Melissa, a HU pro, has taken issue with my bashing of this class. She says she saw someone play it and they were very powerful. Shows what I know.
- Psionic –
A character that can do shit with their mind!
- Robotics Category:
4 subcategories that deal with robots.
- Robot Vehicle –
This character has happened across a robot that they can pilot. It could be the Iron
Giant, one of the tripods from War of the Worlds, or Kit from Knight Rider.
- True Robot –
You have a pet robot, probably human sized. Your character can stay at home playing
Call of Duty while your robot goes out and solves crime. You control your player and
your robot during sessions.
- Exoskeleton –
You have Iron Man’s suit. While an Analytical Genius can build one of these from
scratch your character only knows how to operate it and make minor repairs. The trade
off is that your budget for an awesome suit is far, far superior to the Analytical
- Android –
You are a character that is actually a robot. In Countdown this means you grew up
believing you were a human and only recently learned that you require tune ups.
- Special Training:
5 subcategories of characters that have trained themselves to be awesome.
- Ancient Master -
You have spent years training to become a master of martial arts. If you pick this
character I will explain to you how we will justify years of training in 11 months,
but trust me, it will be awesome.
- The Hunter –
A master of stalking their prey. It is hard to elude The Hunter.
- The Secret Operative -
This character has been recruited by a secret organization, trained to be James Bond,
and has access to the Q branch of high tech shit.
- The Stage Magician -
This character is a virgin.
- The Super Sleuth -
A master detective.
